The MIL-W-46374 series of U.S. Military wrist watches began production following publication of the design specification on 30 October 1964. These watches continue to be made by MWC with high performance quartz movements that are much more accurate and maintenance free than the movements used in the 1960s and 70s disposable models.

The original concept was to produce an inexpensive field watch for infantry and general service troops, with a plastic case and no serviceable or maintainable parts. The design of the dial was identical to US specification MIL-W-3818B watches which were already in production.

On October 10th a new specification MIL-W-46374D was published which set down the design for a large range of watches for various applications. This specification continues today with additional amendments and changes to the original MIL-W-46374 spec but it traces its roots back directly to the MIL-W-46374 which is the specification which was the main inspiration for this model.

MWC made watches of this type back in the 1970s and 80s but in 2007 we received numerous enquiries asking us to re-run the plastic Vietnam watches which we made previously. The decisive moment was in July 2008 when we received a request from a film company to make a fairly large number for a forthcoming production and this combined with demand from various re-enactment groups persuaded us the time was right to bring it back. This watch is virtually identical in appearance to the MIL-W-46374 watches used by American troops in Vietnam during the 1960s and 1970s. The original US Military Issue models as outlined above were deemed disposable but this watch has a modern highly accurate movement so even though it is inexpensive it should last for years.
